Have you heard about the Gunas? No, they're perhaps not Disney characters! Based on yoga you will find three basic attributes or energies that produce up anything. They are, rajas, tamas and sattva.
Rajas could be the energy of movement, change and action. Rajas is the energy of passion and fire. Rajasic power can be linked to the day light hours. We clearly need energy to produce energy to move properly through-out our society and lives. When we have a lot of rajasic power we may appear to the outside world as excessively active, go go go, do do do! Does this sound like you? Maintaining a top amount of rajasic power results in burn up! When rajas has gone out of balance the mind and body are overstimulated, the mind becomes restless and you have a great deal of uncontrollable feelings.
Foods that are rajasic include: hot food, fried foods, coffee / caffeinated beverages/ stimulants/ fish, eggs, candy, foods that are very bitter, dry, bitter and salty. Eating in a rush can also be considered rajasic
Tamas may be regarded as the opposite of rajas. Tamasic power is of a state of in-activity and inertia, heaviness and darkness. Should people need to get further on the internet
, there are many libraries people should think about investigating. Becomes clouded when tamas is out of harmony your power to reason and you may feel the deeper feelings including anger or greed. In the same way there is more rajasic energy present in daylight hours, tamasic energy is present throughout nighttime. Individuals who are very tamasic might be depressed or seem lazy. Broadly speaking infection states are tamasic.
Types of tamasic food include: beef, alcohol, tobacco, onions, fermented ingredients vinegar or strong cheese, old food or over-ripe food, overly processed food or chemically-treated. Overeating is known as tamasic. Clicking ftp box

Sattva is energy that is in a state of harmony and balance. Positive emotional and intellectual states of intelligence and happiness are related to sattva. An individual who was experiencing a great deal of sattvic power would appear very happy. Sattvic energy is also in line with healing states and in Ayurveda (yogas sister research) sattvic energy is earnestly developed. Sattvic energy is most present during the moments between light and dark- in other words sunset and dawn. An individual on the yogic path is targeted on developing sattva and because of this yoga asana and meditation are characteristically conducted at these times. Foods which are sattvic include: legumes, fruits and vegetables, real fruit juice, whole-grains, milk, butter, nuts, seeds, sprouted seeds, honey and herb teas.
It's important to understand that we all have all three gunas within us. And while this is true we tend to have a predominant guna. On the basis of the points above are you able to determine what yours is? It's good to be aware of this because once you are aware of your commonplace guna then you can estimate how may react to specific life conditions too know your strengths and weaknesses. Youll know when you will are generally thrown out of balance and what you will have to do to bring yourself back in balance.
In addition you might have situations in our lives when one guna is more effective then another. Perhaps you have very effective time and very successful (rajasic). Or a period when you have been frustrated (tamasic). Or perhaps a time when we're very balanced and in tune with your spirituality (satvic).
Another way the gunas arrive in our lives and directly effect people is through the meals we eat. Consider for a minute the average American diet with overly refined and chemically-treated foods which are very tamasic. Modern science now confirms that these food items are directly related to major illnesses including cancer, diabetes, obesity and heart disease. As previously mentioned above a lot of tamasic power results in illness states. We also know that foods within their full form including grains, fresh fruits and vegetables (sattvic foods) are life sustaining and provide power and health.
Can you practice yoga
postures (asana)? How do the gunas show up here? Can be your asana practice hot and passionate? Was your training was slow and lazy? Or was it balanced?
It's probably becoming clear for you by now that to be healthy, happy, and stay a stability life it is very important to enhance sattva within your life. This is done by:
Reducing rajas and tamas
Becoming conscious of when you're out-of balance- which guna looks many present?
Increase surroundings and activities that produce good views
Eating a healthy, sattvic oriented diet
Certain herbs (matter for another post)
The practice of yoga: pranayama (breathing procedures), asana (postures), meditation.
